Cal Jorba

This building, standing in the heart of the city, sheltered the popular Jorba store for many years. It is the work of Arnald Calvet, the architect who had designed the store Casa Jorba in Portal de l'Angel in Barcelona.

It was built in three stages: 1936, 1943 and 1952, and it is one of the few examples of Art Decò in Catalonia. Following the line of this style, which has some points of contact with Modernism; this building is characterised by the use of a repertoire of decorative motifs based on geometrical simplicity, which can be seen throughout its façade.

The building, which is clearly a monumental one, is dominated by a central body in the shape of a tower, with its characteristic clock surrounded by allegorical reliefs and guarded by two eagles.
